A disabled lady in her 30s, living on SSDI (Social Security Disability - $800 per month) took her vehicle in for an oil change to a shop she had not used before. The vehicle had 105,000 miles, and she regularly did maintenance. Her vehicle had just had the spark plugs and coils replaced, so she decided to get the oil change done.

Following that visit, while driving on the freeway, her engine overheated for the first time ever since she had purchased the vehicle new. Seems as though someone had cut through the metal water line to the heater core and all the coolant had leaked out.

Numerous 'advisors' suggested repairs, with the end result being that she will need to have the engine replaced. 

The vehicle is worth around $50,000. More importantly, she had paid for it. She is not prepared, or able, to replace it, however a major auto repair facility has found a remanufactured engine, with no miles on it, and is willing to provide that engine, at their cost, plus the labor.
